Hiking alternative - Timkin Complex, St. Thomas

OK, todays’ adventure may not seem like the most ‘exciting’ but even ‘exciting’ is a relative term.  Compared to my treadmill in the basement, speed walking the track around the Timkin Arena in St. Thomas while watching East Elgin Secondary School’s hockey team play a winning game is ‘exciting’.  This arena/complex was constructed in 2005 and this is just my second visit.  I was not aware that there was an indoor track around the arena.  5 laps equal 1 km.  Today, I joined Mandy, my daughter and her two little guys for a 5 km speed walk on the track.  With the poor weather (rain, melting snow, ice) it was a wise choice and more interesting and comfortable than the treadmill or walking the block on the muddy gravel shoulder of the road.  This location will continue to be my bad weather day backup for hiking.  Give it a try, bring a friend.
